The Word at Shaw relies heavily on the support of volunteers.

On Sunday mornings we have a lot of opportunities to serve our guests including:

  • parking lot greeters
  • ushers
  • coffee shop servers
  • kid's and teen workers
  • and a whole cast of characters in our arts department you can get more information on that in the Worship Arts section.

Serving is not only a great way to help others feel welcome and appreciated on Sunday, but it helps you get connected to a team and meet new friends. Contact Pastor Keith for more details.

The flag ship of our missions program Furnishing Hope has received a great deal of interest around our city. Furnishing Hope is a ministry that partners with several homeless shelters in our neighborhood. Our lower floor has an entire wing dedicated to this ministry as we have created three "Rothman-Like" furniture showrooms for clients moving from their shelter into a new home. These showrooms provide a place to "shop" (all is free) for their new home furnishings, and feel the value of being given our very best.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO:

  • pick up donated furniture
  • help refurbish gently used furniture
  • set up the showroom floors
  • move furniture into the new home

Contact Joleen Mayfield for more details.

The Word at Shaw is the official faith partner of Mullanphy - Botanical Garden Elementary School, located adjacent to our church building. Over the past six years we have provided food, clothing, furniture and other necessities to students, families and teachers. Each year Pastor Keith teaches life skill classes to all 2-5 graders, going into each classroom four times a year and working with the students. Several Word at Shaw members tutor on a regular basis, and Pastor Keith leads a prayer time for the teachers each week. Partnering with the city of St. Louis Public Schools in this way has allowed The Word at Shaw to minister to hundreds of kids in our community who do not attend a Sunday service.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO:

  • assist Pastor Keith's life skill training program
  • tutor kids of all ages
  • volunteer for Mullanphy special events
  • provide mentoring for troubled students

WAM! The Worship, Arts and Media ministry seeks to facilitate the worship of GOD through creative elements.

While worship with and through music is an important part of our church culture, we realize that worship is not solely limited to that singular creative element.  In fact, we believe everything we do has the potential to bring glory and honor to our GOD.

With that in mind, we desire to provide an avenue where creativity and excellence is encouraged and fostered through elements such as dance, graphic arts, design, video and production, amongst other things.

If you would like more information on how you can serve as a part the WAM! team, contact Vance Watt.

Throughout the year we find various ways to serve our community. Check our Events Calendar to see what is coming up.

Three times a year The Word at Shaw cancels a Sunday morning service and goes out into the community to serve. The Word on the Street begins with a morning Sending Service at 8:30am, moves into the streets for service projects, and culminates with a pot-luck lunch in the downstairs diner. Serving has always been the practice of The Word at Shaw, and we all love to get our hands dirty.

Stay tuned for the next Word on the Street.
